1MB gives enough headroom that a typical phone photo compresses down with very little visible quality loss. This tool searches JPEG quality levels locally in your browser and picks the highest one that still fits under 1MB.

1MB gives more headroom for quality — pick 500KB or 100KB instead if your limit is stricter.
Does this resize the image dimensions too?+
No, only file size via compression quality. Use Resize Image if you also need to change pixel dimensions.
What if I need an exact different size?+
