Why there's no upload step
Large PDFs are usually large because of embedded images. This tool re-renders each page as an optimized JPEG at your chosen quality and rebuilds the PDF from those images — entirely in your browser. It works best on scanned or image-heavy PDFs; because pages become images, text is no longer selectable in the output.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?+
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser.
Will this affect text I can select/search?+
Yes — pages are rasterized to images to reduce size, so text becomes part of the image and is no longer selectable or searchable.
Which level should I pick?+
"Low" keeps the most quality with modest savings; "High" gives the smallest file but more visible compression artifacts.
