Why there's no upload step
Plenty of forms and platforms reject GIFs, and sometimes you just want a still image of the first frame — for a thumbnail, a document, or a profile picture. This converts the GIF's first frame to a lossless PNG entirely on your device, with transparency preserved if the GIF has any.
Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?+
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser.
Does this keep the animation?+
No — PNG is a still-image format, so you get the first frame. To go the other way (video clip to animated GIF), use the Video to GIF tool.
Is transparency preserved?+
Yes — if the GIF has transparent areas, they stay transparent in the PNG.
Why PNG instead of JPG?+
PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which suits graphics and screenshots. For photos, GIF to JPG produces smaller files.
