Drop a HEIC photo from your iPhone, or click to browse.
Click "Convert to AVIF" — decoding and encoding both happen on your device.
Click "Download AVIF" to save the converted file.
Why there's no upload step
HEIC isn't natively readable by most non-Apple software, and AVIF encoding needs a real encoder for correct results outside Chrome — so this decodes your HEIC photo locally first, then runs it through a WebAssembly AVIF encoder, all without an upload.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?+
No. Both the HEIC decode and the AVIF encode happen entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
Why not just convert HEIC to JPG?+
AVIF compresses noticeably smaller than JPG at the same visual quality — worth it if the apps and sites you're using accept AVIF.
Will every site or app accept AVIF?+
Support has grown a lot, but some older apps and devices still don't display AVIF — use HEIC to JPG instead if you need maximum compatibility.
Does this take longer than a normal conversion?+
A little — it decodes the HEIC file and then runs a full AVIF encode, both real computation, but still just a few seconds for typical photos.
