Why there's no upload step
Stories are a strict 9:16 portrait canvas at 1080×1920. Upload anything else and Instagram zooms and crops to fill the frame — usually straight through a face or the exact detail you wanted shown. Resizing locally first keeps the framing decision yours, and nothing is uploaded before Instagram itself.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?+
No — resizing happens entirely in your browser.
Will a landscape photo be stretched?+
No — aspect ratio is preserved, so it's fitted within the 1080×1920 frame rather than distorted.
Does this size work for Reels covers too?+
Yes — Reels use the same 1080×1920 portrait canvas.
What about the regular feed?+
Feed posts use the square 1080×1080 preset — see Resize for Instagram.
