Why there's no upload step
Shopify recommends 2048×2048 square product images: big enough to enable zoom (which needs more than 800×800) while staying light for fast page loads. Shopify also suggests keeping the file under 300KB — so resize here, then compress. Doing it locally means your product photos never pass through anyone else's server on the way to your store.
