Why there's no upload step

A 50KB limit shows up on exam registration systems, visa/passport application portals, and older government sites built for slow connections. This tool searches JPEG quality levels locally in your browser until it finds the highest quality that still fits under 50KB, so you're not guessing and re-uploading five times.

Questions
Is my photo uploaded anywhere first?+

No — the whole point of this page is that you never have to upload the original photo to get it under 50KB. Compression happens locally in your browser.

Will 50KB look blurry?+

For a typical ID photo or headshot, 50KB is usually enough for a clear result. Very detailed or high-resolution originals may show more visible compression.

What if it can't quite reach 50KB?+

The tool always returns the closest quality level at or under your target when that's achievable — it won't silently exceed 50KB.

My form asks for 20KB instead — what do I do?+

Use the dedicated Compress to 20KB page instead, or just type 20 into the custom KB field here.
